We are a group of about 300 people who all love and enjoy Shotover, and have its interests at heart.
The Society was formed in 1974, to fight the threat of a proposed golf course on Shotover. Now we are regularly consulted by Oxford City Council and its Countryside Service on matters that affect Shotover. In recent years, SPS has made representations on other potential threats to Shotover, and we continue to be alert and be a voice on behalf of preserving Shotover and Brasenose.
We have formal representation on the Shotover Users’ Group, and on the Steering Committee of the Oxford Green Belt Network.
Our aims are to:
- Protect this wild place
- Conserve quiet corners for wildlife
- Preserve Shotover in its natural state for people to enjoy
- Support good landscape management
